Present and reigning monarch of Denmark, Queen Margrethe II is one of the Europe’s longest reigning and most popular monarchies whose reign has marked Denmark for over fifty five years. Since her accession to the throne on January 14, 1972, following her father’s death, King Frederick IX, Margrethe has steered Denmark through change and transition and simultaneously established her self, as a cultural and artistic figurehead of Denmark who is in tune with her country’s intellectual heritage.

Early Life and Education

Margrethe was born on April 16, 1940, In Copenhagen Denmark, the first child of King Frederik IX of Denmark and Queen Ingrid.She had two sisters PrinceIngrid and PrincessBenedikte, her mother PrincessIngrid born in Sweden. Growing up in a country which did not see female monarchs at the time of her birth she was least expected to ascend the Danish throne. For example, the prohibition of women on the act of succession was commemorate in the Coronation of Elizabeth II, But the Act of Succession in the year 1953 permit women to became king which open the way for Margrethe in future as queen.
